ABOUT ABOUT

Join Sarah Kate Walston, Soprano, and Benjamin Beirs, guitarist, for an evening of love songs and romantic guitar music to celebrate Valentine's day weekend. Both are prize-winning artists in their own right, performing nationally and internationally in countries such as Germany, France, India, and England. Regionally, Sarah has appeared with the Baltimore and Annapolis Symphonies, Capitol Opera Richmond, and Chesapeake Opera; Benjamin has appeared at the Kennedy Center, the Baltimore Classical Guitar Society, The McLean Symphony, and twice at the Mainstay. They first met at Peabody Conservatory, where they performed chamber music together in 2007-2008. They join forces again to present a program with songs of love throughout the ages, interspersed with romantic music for solo guitar. From the renaissance to the romantic and beyond, including standards such as “Girl from Ipanema” and “I remember you,” the program is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to hear the unique ensemble of classical guitar and soprano. As for the program's title, drawn from one of the pieces on the program by English baroque composer Henry Purcell – you'll just have to come to find out if music really is the food of love!
